Adoption Process

Our adoption process ensures that we place animals in safe, loving, permanent homes. Once you've visited our shelter and have fallen in love with an orphaned pet there is an application process that can take 24-48 hours. You will be asked for three personal references, proof of residence and various other questions about your lifestyle so we can ensure that you're matched with the right companion animal. Our knowledgeable staff will be able to help with any questions you may have. Our adoption application can be downloaded for your information. You can also print and begin to fill out before visiting if you like.

All of our cats, dogs and some of our small and exotic animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped as applicable before adoption. All of our cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV and all dogs are tested for heartworm.

What is The PetFirst 30 Day Program?

PetFirst’s 30-day pet insurance plan is an offer available to every dog and cat adopted from Montclair Township Animal Shelter, regardless of age. This program ensures adopted pets are covered for accidents and illnesses once they leave the shelter. The 30-day pet insurance reimburses 100% of vet bills incurred during this time up to $500 per incident after a $50 deductible, which can be a safety net for a pet parent to be able to afford an unforeseen medical emergency, rather than making the tragic decision not to treat.
